INDEPENDENT INSURANCE RESEARCH & GUIDANCE — READ BEFORE YOU BUY A POLICY

About The Insurance Ledger

Balanced ledger and golden scale — The Insurance Ledger

The Insurance Ledger started from a simple frustration: most insurance content online is written by the companies trying to sell you a policy, or by affiliates whose only goal is getting you to click "get a quote" as fast as possible. Neither one has much reason to explain the tradeoffs honestly, and both tend to skip the parts that actually matter — the fine print, the exclusions, the questions worth asking before you sign anything.

We built this site to be the resource we wished existed when we were shopping for our own policies: plain-English, honestly opinionated where the math supports an opinion, and upfront about the parts that are genuinely a personal judgment call rather than a universal answer.

What we cover

We publish independent guides across life, health, auto, home and renters, travel, and business insurance, along with general explainers on how insurance actually works — premiums, claims, deductibles, and the terms that show up in every policy but rarely get explained clearly.

How we work

Our full research and review process — the primary sources we use and how each article is independently reviewed — is documented on our methodology page.

Our writers research public rate data, insurer disclosures, and industry reporting for every guide, and we update articles when regulations, average pricing, or product structures change. We don't accept payment from insurance companies in exchange for favorable coverage of their products. Where we link to outside resources, it's because we think they're genuinely useful to a reader making a decision — not because of a paid placement.

What we're not

We're not a licensed insurance agency, and nothing on this site is personalized financial, legal, or insurance advice. Insurance products, pricing, and regulations vary by state and by individual circumstances, so we always encourage readers to confirm specifics with a licensed agent or their insurer before making a final decision. Think of us as the research phase, not the final word.

Our team

The Insurance Ledger is written by a small team of finance and insurance writers, including Marcus Reyes and Dana Whitfield, who focus on breaking down commission-driven sales pitches into plain math that readers can actually use.
